Donor-Backed Challenges
Each year, alumni and donors pledge a challenge to the College of Sciences community. These challenges are key to providing additional motivation and amplifying the impact of collective efforts.
Longtime NC State supporters Dean and Gail Bunce are the only donors to pledge challenge gifts on every Day of Giving.
If you’re interested in providing a challenge gift to inspire others or volunteering in a leadership role for Day of Giving 2026, contact sciences-advancement@ncsu.edu.
“I want to be able to provide students more opportunities than I had.”

College of Sciences Excellence Fund
Unrestricted funds are some of the most important and strategic funds available to the College of Sciences. They allow the dean and leadership to provide resources for immediate needs — often retaining renowned faculty, recruiting top students or providing experiential learning opportunities. The College of Sciences Excellence Fund is most often used to achieve key initiatives.
