Data Management and Sharing Resources

Discover Resources the NC State University Libraries have to offer

  • Data Management Plans (DMPs): Our page Drafting Your DMP offers information on what a DMP should include and links to external resources like the DMPTool. After you’ve written your DMP, Request a Review to get librarian feedback on your plan. For research projects that are already underway, our post-award checklist can help you implement DMPs to keep data safe and available for sharing and reuse.
    • NIH Policy for Data Management and Sharing (DMSP): A new NIH policy for data management and sharing went into effect January 2023 and applies to all NIH proposals. Additional guidance can be found at the NC State SPARCS help site. The Libraries can consult on questions regarding these new requirements and review DMSP drafts through our DMP Review service.
  • ORCID and Biosketch support: SciENcv is the biographical sketch platform required by the NSF and NIH. SciENcv works best when used with an ORCID integration. Our step-by-step guide covers everything researchers need to know. If you’re just getting started with ORCID then be sure to connect it to the Citation Index in order to take advantage of our CV Service, through which the Libraries will populate your ORCID profile on your behalf!
  • Making data & code publicly available: The Libraries’ institutional membership to the Dryad data repository enables any researcher associated with NC State University to deposit and publicly share datasets at no cost. Dryad integrates with Zenodo to support researchers who need to publicly share software and code to comply with publisher, funder, or other requirements. Learn more about other data repository options that we recommend.
  • Research Data Management guidance: Our online guide has advice on all phases of the research data lifecycle, including: developing DMPs for grant proposals; best practices for storage, organization, and preservation of data; and tips to optimize sharing and discovery of data.
  • Libraries Spring 2025 workshops: We are excited to offer a number of workshops this spring on topics like research data management, writing a DMP, research data management tools, and research data repositories. If you are interested in learning more about our upcoming workshops or registering, visit our research data workshop page in REPORTER. If you don’t see a session to sign up for, click the Add to Watchlist button and you will be emailed when the workshop is scheduled.
  • Customized Support and Training: If you are interested in a one-on-one consultation or a group workshop, please let us know. We’d be happy to customize a presentation or a hands-on workshop to meet your needs.

In addition to these resources, the Libraries is a partner in the NC State Research Facilitation Service (RFS), a joint effort with OIT and ORI to help the NC State community discover the computing and data management resources necessary to support their research. The RFS couples experience with the use of various cyberinfrastructure systems with research data management expertise to help researchers optimize their workflows.
