Sciences Faculty Receive 2024-25 University Teaching, Research and Engagement Awards

Ten members of the College of Sciences community have been recognized with 2024-25 NC State teaching, research and engagement awards.
The Provost’s Award for High-Impact Experiential Learning was awarded to the Research PackTrack Program — A High-Impact Experience for Authentic Research. The award recognizes excellence in the development, delivery, accessibility and outcomes of high-impact and interdisciplinary experiences that engage undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The program is administered by three Department of Biological Sciences faculty members: Miriam Ferzli, a teaching professor; Lisa Paciulli, a senior lecturer; and Pat Estes, an associate research professor.
The NC State Biotechnology (BIT) Program received an honorable mention for the Provost’s Award for High-Impact Experiential Learning. Two Department of Biological Sciences faculty members are involved with BIT: Stefanie Chen, an associate teaching professor, and Carlos Goller, a teaching professor.
Goller also received an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award. Sponsored by the NC State Alumni Association, it is one of the most prestigious awards to recognize undergraduate-level teaching at NC State. Recipients receive a cash award and retain their titles as long as they remain NC State faculty members.
Lisa Falk, an associate teaching professor in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and Aaron Titus, a teaching professor in the Department of Physics, received Outstanding Teacher Awards. The awards recognize excellence in teaching at all levels, and recipients become members of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers for as long as they remain NC State faculty. Faculty must receive the Outstanding Teacher Award in order to be eligible for the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award.
Kailash Misra, a professor in the Department of Mathematics, was presented with an Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor Award. The award is sponsored by the NC State Alumni Association and is one of the most prestigious awards to recognize graduate-level teaching at NC State. Recipients receive a cash award and retain their titles for the remainder of their NC State career.
Phil Castellano, a professor in the Department of Chemistry, received the Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award and has been inducted into the NC State Research Leadership Academy. The academy is NC State’s faculty-driven epicenter of research leadership and faculty mentorship.
