Six members of the College of Sciences community were recently recognized with 2019-20 NC State teaching and excellence awards. Four faculty received honors from the NC State Alumni Association, and two staff were honored by the college.

  • Miles Engell, teaching associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and David McConnell, professor in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences, received the Alumni Association Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award. This award is one of the most prestigious undergraduate faculty awards given on campus. Recipients retain that title as long as they are members of the NC State faculty.
  • Carla Frohlich, professor in the Department of Physics, and John Meitzen, associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, were recognized with the Outstanding Teacher Award and also inducted into the Academy of Outstanding Teachers.
  • Andrea Hayes Pennix, accounting technician in the Department of Mathematics, and Kirk Main, systems administrator in the Department of Mathematics, were recognized as the college’s winners of Awards for Excellence, NC State’s highest honor for non-faculty employees. They will be recognized at a university-level awards ceremony with the other 2020 unit winners.
