Matthews Named College’s Assistant Dean for Advancement

Brock MatthewsBrock Matthews has been named the new assistant dean for advancement in NC State’s College of Sciences. He was hired following a national search to fill the position.

As assistant dean for advancement, Matthews serves as the lead fundraiser for the college and oversees the daily operations of the Advancement Office, including supervising staff, managing budgets and setting fundraising goals. He is also president of the College of Sciences Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes the educational, research and service programs of the college.

Matthews joined the college as a director of development in August 2013 and has been serving as interim head of the Advancement Office since March. During his time in the interim role, he positioned the college well to capitalize on its recent fundraising momentum as the public phase of NC State’s new campaign approaches.

Prior to joining NC State, Matthews was the director of development for major gifts in the UNC Cardiovascular Medicine group at the Medical Foundation of North Carolina. He also spent nearly 10 years with the Emory University Office of Development working in various roles of increasing responsibility in annual giving and major gift fundraising.

Matthews holds an MBA from Goizueta Business School at Emory University and a bachelor’s degree in communications studies from UNC-Chapel Hill.
