Alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students showed strong support for the College of Sciences on NC State’s Day of Giving this year. 

On March 25, the college received 1,235 gifts totaling  $1.2 million as part of the annual fundraising event. Over the 24 hours, NC State as a whole raised $43.7 million from 18,028 gifts. Donors representing all 100 North Carolina counties and all 50 U.S states and D.C. were part of the effort.

Each year on Day of Giving, the Wolfpack comes together to help NC State raise funds for priorities across the university, such as meeting students’ most urgent needs, increasing scholarship to keep education accessible to people from every financial background and strengthening the infrastructure that supports our leading-edge research. 

By the end of the day, the college had:

• Raised $1.2 million from 1,235 gifts

• Received $50,000 from Todd ’98 and Ronnie Grosshandler after the Sciences community came together to contribute $5,000 to the newly established Graduate Support Endowment, which provides graduate-level resources for research, travel and fellowships across all six academic departments.

• Earned $50,000 from Mike Boroughs ’73, ’75 after the college reached 100 donations during the university’s 9 to 10 a.m. “Most Gifts” challenge.

• Secured $25,000 from Anita ’89, ’92 and Daniel ‘91 McClernon for the Mary Christine McGahan Student Leadership Endowment after reaching 400 gifts to the college by noon. This endowment, in honor of Dean Emeritus Chris McGahan, funds professional coaching, peer-to-peer mentoring and travel for leadership training.

• Unlocked $7,500 and $5,500 gift-matching challenges from Dean ‘86 and Gail Bunce and Dean Emeritus Dan Solomon, respectively, after the college received more than 45 gifts from faculty and staff from 6-7 a.m. The Bunces are the university’s only supporters to pledge Day of Giving challenge funds for all eight years of the event’s existence.

• Landed more than $9,400 from winning university challenges and securing university bonus funds. The college has now received about $85,000 in university challenge and bonus funding across all Day of Giving events.
