Three physics faculty earn prestigious early-career awards

Daniel Dougherty, Carla Frohlich and Kenan Gundogdu, all assistant professors in the Department of Physics, were informed this month that they have received highly competitive federal research grants.

Dougherty and Frohlich both received Early Career Research Awards from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). These awards support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and stimulate research careers in the disciplines supported by DOE’s Office of Science.

Gondogdu received a Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The ONR Young Investigator Program seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first tenure-track academic appointment, and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. Gundogdu is one of only 16 faculty nationwide to receive this prestigious award in 2013.
