Two academic advisors associated with the College of Sciences received awards at the Undergraduate Academic Advising Awards ceremony in January.

The ceremony, sponsored by Academic Advising Services and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, recognized the accomplishments and commitment of those dedicated to helping students succeed through academic advising.

Erin Seiling won the New Faculty Advisor Award, given to an outstanding advisor who has worked for the university for less than three years and shows strong commitment to promoting student success. As an advisor in the new Life Sciences First Year Program (LSFY), Seiling played a key role in developing the program’s advising activities and a new course for LSFY students. Students in LSFY take a common set of first-year courses that prepare them for any of the life sciences programs across the College of Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Seiling came to NC State in 2013. She received her B.S. in zoology from the university in 2003.

Dr. Jane Lubischer, director of the LSFY and assistant department head in the Department of Biological Sciences, received the Advising Administrator Award, which recognizes faculty who have oversight of an advising unit. Lubischer works with teams of academic advisors both in the LSFY and in the Department of Biological Sciences, the latter of which houses more than 1,500 undergraduates majoring in biological sciences fields.

Lubischer received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1993 and joined the NC State faculty in 2001.
