Campaign Cabinet Profile: Dean Bunce
What’s most extraordinary about the college, unit or program that you represent on the Campaign Cabinet? Why is philanthropy important to it and how do private funds make a difference?
Celebrating five years of success, the College of Sciences is a place that solves today’s biggest problems. The has ongoing research in energy, artificial intelligence, health, environment and security, among many others. It is building bridges into schools and society through citizen science and attracting top researchers and students. Private funding is key as the college continues to develop its facilities and collaborate across industry and with other universities.
Tells us what you love about NC State. How did graduating from NC State impact or shape your life and inspire you to get involved?
My NC State degree has enabled me to develop life-changing medicines but has helped me develop into a person that sees opportunities to give back to the community.
What would you say to someone who is considering making a gift or becoming more engaged in NC State’s culture of philanthropy?
Your gift, no matter the size, will make a difference as NC State students and faculty continue working to solve today’s grand issues. Your gift may allow the next teacher of your children to better themselves, or it may reduce the time needed to generate the research to cure cancer or improve other medical procedures. The Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign is transforming NC State into the leading university in North Carolina, and it is helping attract top industry and researchers. This will pay dividends for generations to come.
