NC State Statistician Wilson Named AAAS Fellow

Dr. Alyson Wilson, professor of statistics at North Carolina State University, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest scientific society and publisher of the journal Science.

Wilson is among 347 scientists to be honored as an AAAS Fellow in 2015. She will be recognized at the association’s February 2016 meeting in Washington, D.C. Her election means the College of Sciences now has 11 AAAS Fellows on its faculty.

Wilson was honored for “research contributions to Bayesian reliability and for a commitment to strengthening the scientific underpinnings of national security through significant statistical innovations and leadership.”

Wilson is the principal investigator at NC State’s Laboratory for Analytic Sciences. She is a fellow of the American Statistical Association with research interests in statistical reliability, Bayesian methods, and the application of statistics to problems in defense and national security. She also coordinates NC State’s “data-driven science” cluster, which focuses on the development of interdisciplinary collaborations between statistics, mathematics and computer science to develop leadership in data science.
