Depending on the length of your presentation, the publishing process could take several minutes; if your wireless connection is lost during this time, the presentation will fail to publish to the server. When the upload is complete, an Uploading Finished notification will appear and the file status will read Uploaded. If you would rather upload presentations manually, in the Desktop Recorder Settings menu, deselect Upload files while recording. This allows you to upload later when you are on a wired connection (more information is available at Uploading Presentations from the Mediasite Desktop Recorder).

Once Desktop Recorder launches, you can record your presentation by following these steps:

If you are not logged in, click Sign in. Enter your username and password (by default, this is your NC State Unity ID and password).

Click Record Now.

Follow the prompts to navigate through the wizard to set up your presentation type, the hardware devices you will use, volume levels, and the desktop area to be recorded.

Confirm the presentation settings on the Summary screen, then click the Record button.

NOTE: There will be a five-second countdown before recording begins.

The selected capture region is highlighted with red corner indicators, but it will not appear on your final recording; however, if the Desktop Recorder control panel is in the capture area during your recording session, it will appear in your final recording.

If you have more than one monitor, you should move the Desktop Recorder control panel to a secondary monitor. The control panel can be closed while recording; to reopen the control panel, click on the Desktop Recorder icon in your system tray.

When you are finished recording, click the Finished button in the Desktop Recorder control panel. Once the presentation status changes to Uploaded, you can return to the My Mediasite management portal to view and manage your presentation.

Using the My Mediasite Management Portal

The My Mediasite management portal allows you to search for, filter, sort, and manage your presentations. The management portal also allows you to easily toggle presentations between Private and Viewable from the home page.

Click the following link to access the My Mediasite management portal.

Your My Mediasite management portal will also display how much storage space your account is currently using. Faculty, staff, and students are limited to 50 gigabytes of storage; if you are approaching your limit, you should consider purging unnecessary items. For more information, see this video on managing your quota level.

To watch or make changes to a presentation, click on the presentation to open the recording management window. Using the different tabs located in this window, you can:

Preview and edit the presentation itself, watch the presentation with the My Mediasite Player, and see a summary of its information and settings

Share the presentation with others

Edit presentation information and playback/delivery settings

Publish the presentation on catalogs and showcase channels or move it to a different folder/channel

Modify security settings to dictate who can view/edit the presentation

View analytics for the presentation

Delete the presentation

Using Mediasite Player

The Mediasite MultiView Player is a dynamic multimedia player idea for most Mediasite live and on-demand playbacks. The MultiView adjusts the player layout to match presentation and content output: if the presentation is a video-only presentation, the MultiView will display that single view; however, if the presentation also uses slides, the MultiView will display multiple views.

The Mediasite MultiView Player allows the user to adjust how they view their presentations in many ways. Clicking inside any view will make that view full-screen. While in this mode, the user is able to exit full-screen mode, cycle through the other views (if applicable), or open the view in a new browser window. Opening a slideshow in a new window also allows the user to view and navigate the slide carousel.

My Mediasite Tutorials and Resources

Recording Your Screen With Mediasite Desktop Recorder (Mediasite U tutorial)

Editing Your Video Presentation (Mediasite U tutorial)

How to Edit Your Mediasite Videos Like a Pro (mediasite.com article)

Mediasite documentation

Using Mediasite My Mediasite is a desktop recording platform instructors use to create instructional content on a personal computer or tablet.
