Join us to hear from five women who, despite considerable challenges, have made significant contributions to their fields and are pushing society forward.
Speakers include
- Jamila Simpson, who graduated as the first African-American woman to receive a B.S. in meteorology from NC State and is now interim associate dean for academic affairs in the NC State College of Sciences
- Ann Vaughan Hammond and Peggy Vaughan, daughter and daughter-in-law of Dorothy Vaughan, one of the first “human computers” at NASA and NASA’s first African-American manager
- Stephani Page, creator of #BLACKandSTEM, a community on Twitter dedicated to connecting African-Americans in STEM career paths
- Crystal Harden, director of programs and strategic initiatives, as well as chief diversity officer, at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center
This event is sponsored by the N.C. Space Grant, in collaboration with the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
